Agriculture Dominating the Land
Kansas, United States
September 2000
This area south of Garden City, Kansas, is covered by hundreds of irrigated fields. Wheat is grown here using center-pivot irrigation techniques that create circle-shaped fields. The bright red colors reveal crops that reflect strongly in near-infrared wavelengths. Light-colored circles are fields that are fallow or have already been harvested.
