The famous canals that cut across Venice, Italy, are visible in this high-resolution image from the IKONOS satellite. Running across the center of the city is the Grand Canal, winding for two miles from St. Mark's Square to the train station in the northwest. Hundreds of small canals branch off the Grand Canal to the east and west. There are 114 canals in Venice and more than 400 bridges.
