Mountains and Dry Valleys
Cental China, Asia
March 1990
Mountains, sand dunes, and various rock types swathe the deserts of northwestern China. A dramatic fault line, where earthquakes are common, dissects the desert. Sand dunes can be seen in the north, while white salt deposits, left by dried-up lakes, appear in the south. Such imagery is especially useful for mapping geologic features in remote regions.
